Reply guy

A user who builds an audience by replying early and substantively to large accounts.

In depth

"Reply guy" was originally pejorative — a low-effort lurker tagging celebrities. It evolved into a legitimate growth strategy: by being among the first quality replies on a large account's tweet, you earn impressions from that account's audience and drive profile visits.

Done well (genuinely good responses, not spam), reply-guy growth can add hundreds of followers per week.
