Saving a tweet privately for later reference, without notifying the author.

Bookmarks are private — only you can see them. The author of the original tweet sees an aggregate bookmark count but not who saved the post.
Bookmarks weight in the algorithm: a heavily-bookmarked tweet is a strong save signal, and the algorithm extends its reach accordingly. They're also a useful research signal — high bookmark count suggests the content is reference-worthy, not just clickbait.
