Engagement bait
Tactics that solicit engagement (likes, replies, reposts) without offering proportionate value — penalized by the algorithm.
In depth
Common engagement-bait patterns: "Like this if you agree," "Reply with your favorite," "Repost if you've ever felt this way." X explicitly down-weights these patterns because they game the engagement signal without delivering value.
The line between a legitimate question and engagement bait is whether the question advances a real conversation. "What's your tech stack?" from a developer talking shop is fine. "REPLY WITH YOUR TECH STACK 👇" from a growth-hack account is bait.
