X API v2

Also known as: X API, Twitter API

The official developer interface to X, used by automation tools to post, read, and analyze tweets.

In depth

The X API v2 is the only X-sanctioned way to programmatically interact with the platform. Authentication uses OAuth 2.0 with PKCE; rate limits scale with paid API tiers.

Tools that don't go through the official API (those scraping the web UI or running headless browsers) violate X's terms and risk account bans for their users. AutoTweet uses only the official API.
